Brass Preparation:With bulk rifle brass you may sometimes notice a few case mouths are “out of round” or slightly dented below the shoulder.  These imperfections occur in the final tumbling wash operation after the case mouth has been annealed.  Brass manufacturers are aware of the case cosmetics and have worked to mitigate it, but due to equipment design, denting may still occur.  Minor dents are normally removed in the first firing and will not affect case life or performance.  On non-plated brass, you may also notice all the anneal stain might not be polished off, which may give the case neck a pinkish color.  With some smaller caliber cases you may notice the case mouths to be slightly belled.

With all new rifle brass, you should first straighten out the case and case mouth, then chamfer and debur the case mouth inside and out.  To straighten the case mouth, run the case part way into the sizer die and let the expander ball straighten the brass.  To prevent the case neck from stretching, be sure to lubricate the case neck inside the case mouth.

It is easy to see why Vihtavuori Smokeless Powders have achieved a strong position among top class shooters around the world.

he N100 series powders are single base powders used mainly in rifle calibers. This Vihtavuori rifle powder was originally developed for .50 BMG and for military use, and even the name 20N29 originates from the Finnish Army standards. 20N29 is a single-based, surface treated powder with grain dimensions of 2,3 mm length and 1,3 mm diameter. The burning rate is slower and grain size larger than those of the N100 series powders. 20N29 is primarily used in large caliber and magnum applications with heavy bullets and in long-range target shooting. It is ideally suited for the .50 BMG, but has also gained a good reputation when used in .300 Lapua Magnum and .30-378 Weatherby Magnum.

Vihtavuori offers two rifle powders specifically for the .50 BMG case; 24N41 and 20N29. These are single-based treated powders, having very large grain size and  extremely slow burning rates ideally suited to the .50 BMG. They also have some application in a few other very large capacity cases, such as the .338 Lapua Magnum and the .30-378 Weatherby Magnum. Of the two, 24N41 is slightly faster than 20N29, with renewed relative burning rates 39 for the 24N41 and 36 for the 20N29, when N110 is given the index 100.
