  • Buffalo Bore Dangerous Game Ammunition 45-70 Government 380 Grain Lehigh Mono-Metal Lead-Free Box of 20

Buffalo Bore Dangerous Game Ammunition 45-70 Government 380 Grain Lehigh Mono-Metal Lead-Free Box of 20

Buffalo Bore Dangerous Game ammunition is a line of mono-metal,  non-expanding, dangerous game loads. These “Dangerous Game” (DG) loads are super high quality, very powerful, and will live up to their namesake. Mono-metal bullets have a few advantages (a couple of disadvantages too) over typical non-expanding hard cast bullets. These advantages may or may not be meaningful to each individual, depending on your usage. The advantages are that they are cleaner burning/firing than hard cast bullets. Also, hard cast bullets can smear their nose profile when they hit large bones at close range/high velocity. When the flat nose smears and changes shape, it can impact straight line penetration. The disadvantages are cost and case capacity issues, mono-metal bullets made of copper or brass alloys are lightweight for their length.

Buffalo Bore loads their ammunition with the highest quality components available to maximize the performance of the ammunition. This ammunition is safe to use in all modern firearms that are in proper working condition. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

Owner of Buffalo Bore Tim Sundles on Buffalo Bore 45-70 Mag +P Ammunition:

This is a super powerful 45-70+P loading. It is externally identical to SAAMI spec. 45-70 ammo, but internally it generates FAR more power and pressure. So, our 45-70 ammo will fit/chamber into any 45-70 firearm. HOWEVER, its use should be limited to firearms that are built to take the +P pressures it generates.

We were not able to develop velocities as fast as we’d like because the long-for-weight all copper bullet crowds the limited powder capacity of the 45-70 casing. Still, 2200+ fps is screaming and is powerful and for those that understand the benefits of the all copper Barnes TSX bullet, it is a worthwhile trade off. As an added benefit to many shooters, this reduced velocity also means significant recoil reduction.

As always, we use real world firearms to generate our published velocities. We feel the industry wide duplicitous practice of generating advertised velocities from extra long laboratory barrels is dishonest to the customer as he/she will not be able to duplicate those velocities in the real world, where it matters.

  • Buffalo Bore Smokeless Blackpowder Equivalent Ammunition 45-70 Government 500 Grain Hard Cast Lead Flat Nose Box of 20

Buffalo Bore Smokeless Blackpowder Equivalent Ammunition 45-70 Government 500 Grain Hard Cast Lead Flat Nose Box of 20

Buffalo Bore low pressure “Black Powder Equivalent” 45-70 loads are safe to use in “Trap Door” actions, assuming the action is in normal operating condition. Original (1873) 45-70 Govt. ammo was released to the military, in the military rifle of the day, which was the Springfield model 1873. SAAMI has set 45-70 pressure levels at 28,000 PSI, which is potentially enough pressure to damage trap door actions, depending on the pressure curve of the ammo. Most authorities believe that 18,000 to 20,000 PSI is safe for all trap door actions that are in normal operating condition. These loads are operating at or below 18,000 PSI.

We know from history that 45-70 loads of this power level literally pounded 2,000+ lb. bison. As bullet diameter increases, velocity and bullet expansion is less important in causing the bullet to be lethal to large animals, and a 46 caliber, (.458 inch) non-expanding bullet is very big, relatively, so this low pressure/low velocity 45-70 ammo is very lethal to big critters. Shooting most types of smokeless powders at low pressures causes dirtier burning as well, but still, smokeless powders burning dirty at low pressures are about 95% cleaner than black powder and smokeless powders remain non-corrosive, unlike black powder, which is very corrosive. Remember, these loads feature smokeless, completely non-corrosive powder. An added benefit to these BPE loads is that they recoil very little relative to high pressure/high power 45-70 ammo. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.
